I can’t be the only one who is starting to get a little stir crazy from the global lockdowns due to Covid-19. I fully understand and support everything being closed, but I am also bummed that I now have no idea when I’ll be able to travel again. I postponed my trip to Uganda that I was supposed to take in June, and now I have nothing booked for the foreseeable future.
Then I started seeing virtual tours floating around the internet. What an amazing idea! Explore the world from the comfort of your own home. Obviously this is not the same as experiencing these places in person, but it will do in a pinch for now.
After doing some research, I’ve compiled a virtual bucket list from around the world to help quench your wanderlust.
1. The Louvre
I’ll start off the list with The Louvre. Maybe you’ve heard of it? The Louvre is located in Paris, France and is the largest art museum in the world. While the museum is closed to the public, they’ve opened up many of their galleries as well as other resources to explore online.
Next up, visit the Great Wall of China. I don’t know about you, but visiting the Great Wall is on my real bucket list. Since I don’t think I’ll be getting there for quite a while now, I found this virtual tour of some of its most visited sections.
3. Pharaoh Ramesses VI Tomb in Luxor, Egypt
This is one of the coolest tours on my list. It takes you through corridors full of hieroglyphs until you make it to the burial chamber. There you see Ramasses sarcophagus.
I visited Yellowstone years ago with my family, and the video walks they offer took me right back to that trip.
You can still experience wildlife at one of the best zoos in the world thanks to their live cams. See monkeys, apes, pandas, polar bears, and more. Your local zoo may have something similar set up, too!
This one is a little close to home for me. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is just a couple hours drive south of the Bay Area where I live, and as an animal lover, I have been there quite a few times. Similarly to San Diego Zoo, they have live cams set up on their animals.
Conservation International has created a virtual tour of the world’s largest rainforest.
This is just a short list of the hundreds of virtual tours available right now. Can you think of some place you want to visit that isn’t on this list? Google search that plus “virtual tour” and I’m sure you’ll find one. Let’s all explore safely during these uncertain times, and we’ll all be able to travel the world again someday.
